Meridiano partners with Asociación Almijara to restore Málaga’s former landfill site

Thanks to a joint environmental initiative, around 150 schoolchildren from Málaga took part as part of World Environment Day

Meridiano is collaborating with the Almijara Association on the restoration of the old Malaga landfill

Caring for the planet and promoting environmental education from an early age. These are two of the main goals that have brought Asociación Almijara and Meridiano Seguros together. They have collaborated on the ecological restoration of the former Los Asperones landfill site in Málaga, a large-scale project that demands special focus and effort.

Thanks to this partnership, more than a hundred Year-3 and Year-4 pupils from CEIP Rectora Adelaida de la Calle in Málaga have actively taken part in a range of educational activities that form part of the environmental restoration of this site.

During these sessions – held to coincide with World Environment Day – the students not only learned about ecology; they also took part directly in habitat-improvement actions such as building dry-stone walls, creating seed balls, establishing biodiversity refuges and forming ponds for amphibians. All with a participatory, educational and transformative approach.

With this initiative – which aligns closely with our strategic plan, where sustainability is one of our main pillars – our aim above all is to give continuity to environmental restoration projects, connecting families with real causes and fostering a positive impact on society,” explains Sonia Carricondo, Head of Communication and ESG at ASV Group, to which Meridiano Seguros belongs.

In addition, for every download of the free guide “ Mum, Dad, shall we look after the planet? ”, this real environmental project receives support through the collaboration with Asociación Almijara.

Therefore, downloading this family guide on sustainability is more than an educational gesture; it is a direct way to contribute to the ecological transformation of a natural space and to support an association with decades of genuine commitment,” Carricondo concludes.
